That configuration of a small body and long lower shadow(no upper shadow) is a "HANGING MAN" after an upswing, but that same configuration in a downtrend is called a "HAMMER". Funny that they game it a different name, since normally they would call a pattern either BULLISH or BEARISH rather than totally different names for the same. Maybe they wanted to make it a bit ominous sounding, since it is a common and significant reversal signal.

Actually, we had a similar type thing happen in the DOW shortly before the Aug decline -- does anybody remember it?
