Jean-Claude Husson Selected Via Satellite's Satellite Executive of the Year 1998
POTOMAC, Md., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Jean-Claude Husson, president and CEO of Alcatel Espace, has been selected unanimously as Via Satellite's Satellite Executive of the Year 1998.

In 1998, under Husson's leadership, Alcatel made numerous high-profile accomplishments including the launch of the industry's first direct-to-user digital audio broadcasting satellite built by Alcatel on behalf of Worldspace; the continued ramp-up of Skybridge, a Ku-band multimedia satellite constellation; a merger of Alcatel's and Aerospatiale's space activities, allowing Alcatel to expand its role; and the growing involvement of Alcatel in space ventures and projects around the world.

''These activities represent the increasing role Alcatel intends to play on a global basis, as well as the vertical integration of satellite capabilities under its leadership,'' said Scott Chase, vice president and group publisher of the Phillips Communications and Satellite Group, the publisher of Via Satellite. ''Thanks to Husson and Alcatel, the satellite industry continues to offer an increasingly diverse array of innovative services, and the European satellite sector, in particular, is becoming a magnet for satellite operators and users from around the world.''

As Satellite Executive of the Year 1998, Husson will be featured on the cover of the upcoming February issue of Via Satellite. He will present the luncheon address at Phillips Business Information, Inc.'s annual international conference and exhibition, SATELLITE 99: Dawn of a New Era, on Feb. 4. The conference takes place Feb. 2-5 at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.
