T, Yes, Germany is a major force, but don't forget that the Italians and the French are there, too. I haven't figured out how they keep those semi-chaotic banks in line.

Swiss banks now pay interest, though they are cheesier than Brown and Co. And you always pay your taxes no matter where you put your money.

I am not as thrilled about traveler's checks. You then become a creditor of American Express. They are o.k., but nothing like a govt.
