NOVELL: Novell agree six-figure settlement in software piracy case JAN 13, 1999, M2 Communications - Novell UK -- Novell UK announced that it has reached a six figure settlement in a High Court case brought against GTi Networks Group Ltd and certain named individuals. The company, based in Salisbury, has also undertaken not to make or install any further illegal copies of Novell's network operating system, NetWare or any other Novell product. Novell first became aware of GTi's activities in 1997 following calls to the Novell Anti-Piracy Hotline from GTi's customers. Simon Swale, Novell's regional licensing investigator said, "These customers comprised of Primary and Secondary Schools and Veterinary Practices who had purchased bespoke software, designed to run on Novell NetWare, from GTi. The presence of duplicate serial numbers identified the products as illegal." Swale continued "Any customers of GTi who have not so far been contacted by Novell can call the Novell Anti-Piracy Hotline on 0800-747283 for advice and assistance." Business Data Systems Ltd of Edinburgh has agreed heads of terms to take over GTi's business and together with Novell are committed to providing former customers of GTi with legal Novell software. Mr Derek Keen, commercial director for BDS stated, "We are pleased to have this opportunity to work with Novell, and we're looking forward to a strong working relationship with them in the future."
