lesson learned. using FIFO can protect you here.

double up at 4 or whatever in November. then do your tax loss selling a month later (the first shares in are the first shares out). you avoid having the train leave the station without you and you get to book your loss against other gains.

I believe this is an ok strategy. check with your accountant.
