Stormin' I'm checking another source for more info on the MOBEX. And the only reason that I have ANY concern is that the right-wing reactionary, New World Order conspiratorialists are selling the American people short by spreading their TRIPE about how Y2K will harken in the shredding of the constitution and the destruction of our democracy (actually representative republic, but it's all semantics..:0) My main fear is that certain elements seeking to gain power may use this fear-mongering tactic to force gov't agencies to take stringent actions against these groups in the interest of preserving public order and to prevent further OK City bombing-style events from taking place. The obvious restriction of civil rights to deal with an increase of domestic terrorism could possibly then creep into being a self-fulfilling prophecy which would only strengthen the conspiratorialist rhetoric. That's what frightens me. And if there is MOBEX occurring in April, 99, more power to them (even though it is merely a "show"). It is, IMO, a waste of time since the easiest way to ensure that all guardsmen are ready for potential duty on Jan 1st, is to shedule ALL DRILL DATES nationwide for that weekend with no passes permitted. Then there would be no reason for a MOBEX. But a MOBilization EX is not something to be concerned with in my opinion. Y2K is only ONE reason that the Guard needs to practice a rapid mobilization. The main reason to practice one is simply in the case of a sudden breakout in hostilities or an attack on the US, either Nuclear, or by Infomation Warfare. It is prudent, but needs to be politically managed so as not to be misrepresented by those who have something to gain by spreading their conspiracies. I'll let you know when I get the word from the horse's mouth. Regards, Ron
