You are mesmerized, as are many others, by the attraction of a stock that seems to magically defy all logic and financial common sense. But sooner or later, the haze will clear, they will report yet ANOTHER quarter of losses, and the dream will go up in smoke.

I don't think I'm mesmerized exactly. Intrigued by the price action, yes. Surprised if Amazon pulls back, no. But I'm not emotional about this stock (other than I'm not so sure I should have sold the shares I did to cover my initial investment cost) more or less than any of my other holdings.

You're right about the haze clearing. People worry that these stocks 'have to go down' in the short term, long term, whatever. The good thing is that the stock price and company future *will* play out, and sense will be made of it only in retrospect. So we can all look forward to being either justified, mystified, or somewhere in between.

Are there any stocks of related companies you would choose to own for the long term?

Not expecting any earnings surprises from Amazon.com for a while...
