I plan to get 2 Q-phones in the next few days, one for me, and one for my wife.

I've looked at the Nokia 6162. It's a great phone, and, in fact, it has features that I'd really like to have -- infrared, schedule integration, batched messaging/e-mail, etc. I almost bought one, even though I'm very heavily into QCOM stock. Unfortunately, the Q/Palm pilot combo's just too large for my tastes, even if it was available.

I was bummed that my research led me to the Nokia when I would have preferred supporting the Q, especially since the only digital technology supported by the 6162 is TDMA. The good news for Qualcomm is that the Infrared, schedule integration, etc., in fact, all the features I wanted it for were not enabled in the US. According to the people at AT&T, they wouldn't be in the forseeable future (this year). Good for the Q, but I hope they take advantage of it to add these features to their small handsets soon. Why is it that handset manufacturers take so long to put together features that are obvious killers? I'm unhappy that Nokia seems to be closest to the mark, and regardless of brand, I wish the best handsets would support the best air interface.

Mike

Re : For what it's worth, last week I went into a Sprint PCS store in Manhattan and the Q phone had just been reintroduced with its new skin and improved antenna - all for $199.00 versus $500.00 a year ago.

I was recently in a cell phone store in Pembroke Pines FL (they had a lot of Sprint PCS stuff, but were not a Sprint PCS only store, I don't think) (the reason I am not positive one way or the other on what kind of store this was is not because I am a moron, but because I was running late in my quest to find a certain toy store, and was just asking for directions at the cell phone place).

Anyway, this place had the PCS Q-phone for $549.00. I was a bit shocked at the price, but ... hey, if they can get it, fine.

Jon.

Tonight I went into the same store and the Q was sold out and they were waiting for new shipments - salesman mentioned very strong demand. >>

FYI, a friend of mine owns a small company that sells Sprint PCS, among other wireless products. He tells me that he has been forced to sell mostly non-QCOM phones since several weeks before Christmas, because Sprint's warehouses were empty. His contact at Sprint says if QCOM does not bring more production on-line somewhere, the situation will continue to get worse, because they are the most reliable phones.
