<<CD-rom restore>>

I have used mine a couple of times and it works fine ... HOWEVER,

1. I have long since visited the Microsoft site and added various useful updates to my Win98. These are of course not on the CD, so you have to reinstall any updates you may have accumulated from Microsoft - or any other vendors.

2. The CD puts back all the junk programs that I got rid of after getting comfortable with the system. These have to be removed again.

3. The CD does nothing to back up your data files. Be sure to back up data files regularly - bookmark files - e-mail files - anything you have accumulated that might be significant. There will come a day .... best policy is two sets of backup ZIPs or floppies, one out of the house. I am just now looking into using "Atrieva" which is an encrypted on-line back up service. Even there, two back up sets make sense. I once had a problem bad enough that it blew up my first back up set.

Re Monitor problem.

You probably have a wrong driver installed, or perhaps multiple drivers causing confusion.

In Safe mode,
go to "Control panels",
open "System",
click on "Device Manager" tab,
in the list that appears go to Monitor,
click on the + sign,
see what monitor drivers are installed.

You may find the system has two or more drivers after all your efforts, one right and one for your previous monitor. If the right one is present, just delete the others as it/they is causing confusion. If there is only one entry - a wrong one - delete it and restart. The system should then go thru the PnP routine and find you a suitable driver. If none is found, you may have force the installation of a generic driver if you can or get a driver from Goldstar.
