>>> has anybody sighted any HiFD in stores? I haven't <<<

Gottfried, I phoned Sony a couple days ago and asked about HiFD. The rep told me there was "limited availability" and I should call my local retailer for more info. I haven't seen a HiFD yet.

Regards - Dale

HiFD sighting

Gottfried,

Yes, I saw one HiFD in the Albany, NY, COMP USA
in December, a week or two before Christmas. That's
where I confirmed on the package that one has to
have a floppy drive already installed in one's
PC to install the HiFD, because they put the
installation software on a floppy. Duh.

I'll probably go back this weekend. I'll try to
remember to let you know if there are any additional
units on the shelves.

By the way, I ordered a PC for my little not-for-profit
at the Gateway Country store in Albany last week. I
asked the rep how many customers were buying units
without a Zip. He said "a few." There was a little display
of palm cards on the counter promoting the inclusion
of a Zip in one's purchase. Not bad for a place that
has married cow boxes to faux industrial decor.

To all, please keep yammering about Hawaii, Scottsdale,
and similar warm spots. I need such talk bad, real bad.
It was eight below zero here when I got up this morning,
with a wind chill of fifty below. They can't make maple
syrup good enough to counteract that.

Cheers, Tom (long IOM, and grateful not to be in Buffalo)
