Let's put this to rest once and for all. A collective is defined as individuals acting as a group. Surely you have seen a group of individuals pulling together on a rope to haul out a boat at some time in your world travels. Are you saying that this does not happen, or that it just bothers you?

Surely the world would be different if Hiltler or Marx weren't born. The same is true for everyone, but to different degrees. So?
