Doug: Yes, CS is a looser but they have very good products. Their network management tool Spectrum is far better than HP Openview, 3Com Transcend and Bay (NT) Optivity. Lately their Swithces have been getting some industry wide recognition. I am sure there are many more good reasons. You are right they are loosing money an that is why they are up for sale. CS $18 in 12 months. Buyout offer to be around $21-25 range.

Livingston was hardly a powerhouse. SUNW took over MIPS to keep them from going under. Just a couple of counterexamples that come to mind.
