In my opinion the AAV vector patent problem is indirectly ARIAD's problem. Genovo is directly involved. It seems (I have it from The Yahoo AVGN-Board), that in the SCIENCE-article is indicated, that UOPENN's AAV vector "system" is patented.

Also from the Yahoo AVGN board: the number of patents related to Adeno-associated virus vectors is very large.

Merck is another one active in this field. Also no reaction from them.
