Toby, thanks for the link. Great article. It seems that there is plenty of room for more than 2 sources of blue lasers, and SiC substrate will help solve the problems presented by high temperature and high power. We do not know how far along Cree is in laser work, but the CEO has said they would have a commercial laser in 1999.

In regard to Nichia's "best product" LED, that opinion is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly Siemens is very satisfied with the cost/performance of the Cree product. It is being designed into more and more vehicles. The recent win of several multimillion dollar contracts in Japan, despite the high dollar/yen cost, demonstrates the Cree diode advantage over Nichia in many applications.

With regard to stock price, Cree is growing earnings at 50+ % , and has hardly begun to supply materials for integrated circuits and gemstones. Green diodes are starting to ramp. Lasers will not be far behind. The p/s and p/e ratios are high for a company like Coca Cola, but not for a 21st century leader. I wish I would have bought Microsoft 10 years ago at a p/e of 200! wj
