Nokia and Dolphin sign TETRA infrastructure contract valued at over 150 million Euros Note: Tero has already mentioned Nokia's dominance in this new market segment (digital PMR) (January 14, 1999) - Dolphin Telecom and Nokia have signed a contract for the delivery of a digital TETRA professional mobile radio network in France. Deliveries for the network will start immediately. The value of the contract is more than 150 million Euros (1 billion French Francs). Nokia will deliver and implement a complete TETRA network including switches, base stations, dispatching equipment and a network management system. Nokia will also provide installation and other customer services. Nokia was chosen as the supplier in France because of its ability to deliver a system with the high level of advanced features and functions required by the Dolphin network. In addition to cellular services, the network meets the special needs of most demanding professional mobile users. "Nokia brings its acknowledged wealth of experience and skills in TETRA mobile telecommunications," comments Ted Beddoes, Chief Executive Officer of Dolphin Telecom, "not only from its prior contract with us in the UK, but also from its several other significant TETRA network contracts across Europe" "We are very pleased and excited with this significant deal which demonstrates Nokia's leadership in TETRA technologies," says Mikko Heikkonen, President, Network Systems, Nokia Telecommunications. "We are looking for a successful partnership with Dolphin Telecom in building the first nationwide digital commercial PMR network in France, supporting advanced voice and data applications". After the two year roll-out period, the network will provide nationwide coverage in France. Dolphin Telecom SA is building a new TETRA network, which will provide a truly integrated mobile data and voice service previously not available from any other single network. The company is part of Dolphin Telecom plc, a wholly owned subsidiary of Telesystem International Wireless (TIW). TIW is a member of the Telesystem Group of Canada, a global operator in high growth wireless markets.
