Since you ask, I will respond, though being careful not to mention the redundant BS. Actually I thought it was pretty interesting--just down the street at the AAA office, which is very close to the Q&R office, the guy had a big drawer full of all kinds of travelers checks and had to thumb around a while to find the Swiss ones. I didn't expect such a cosmopolitan service in the burg where I live.

I guess MB has a point--there's no way of knowing what American Express holds to back up these pieces of paper. I hope it's not puts and calls on foreign exchange. Pretty good business to be in--I have a hundred dollar Amex check that's been in my hip pocket for about seven years for emergencies, and I guess they have made about $35 off that.
