Tom, I just finished reading Dan Niles' December 24 research report on MU. He flat out states "Bit production growth in the quarter was 10% sequentially". The 10Q is equally unequivocal on this point:

Net sales of semiconductor memory products increased by 10% in the first quarter of 1999 as compared to the fourth quarter of 1998 principally due to an approximate 18% increase in average selling price per megabit of memory sold, partially offset by a 10% decline in megabits shipped. The decrease in megabits shipped was primarily due to backend production constraints associated with the Company's rapid transition to the .21u shrink version of its 64 Meg DRAM product.

I did not listen to the conference call this time, but it seems MU may have resorted to flat out lying ??? Could anyone who did listen comment? Dan also did not mention any "backend production constraints". Was this brought up during the conference call?

Managing info with an eye towards the stock price is not ethical, but usually legal, changing the facts with an eye towards the stock price is a practice the SEC might be interested in.

Regards, Dave
