DBT Online (DBT)
Database Technologies, Inc.
Current (and former- like myself) Federal law enforcement officials love DBT products to track down deadbeats. Bernie Marcus of The Home Depot, and Frank Borman (Eastern), sit on the board, and a host of top-notch former Feds are directors, e.g., Milford DEA, etc. This company has a bright future ahead of them.

MasTec (MTZ)
Let's double down. This company is finally starting to blossom. They sold off their struglling Latin American subsidiaries, and are now ready to take care of business.

Vicor (VICR):

Vicor manufactures modular power supplies. It has no debt, a great balance sheet and cash in the bank. With 65 US patents and applications their technology separates them from their competition. Also, these patents have resulted in royalty income from a number of large power supply companies. They recently announced a full line of their second generation product which should significantly expand their market and increase their margins.

Integrated Systems (INTS):

INTS is a leader in providing real time operating systems and tools. INTS is about the same size as Wind River, but has a fraction of the market cap. They have a new first class CEO and recently announced a very nice quarter. The real time market has a very high growth rate that is expected to expand in the coming years.

Hi Mark,

Praigitzer Industries (PGTZ). Motherboard industry moving from buckets to high tech. Praigitzer focusing on Quality to take advantage of the shift. Multi layered board business booming to support cell phone industry, and many other items. Hewlett Packard one of their best customers. Price 7.75.

SAP. Net profits slowed recently due to the Asian economy and corporate dollars going into solving the Y2K issue. Both should gradually shift in 99. Industry will then turn their attention back toward upgrading information systems. The rest of the world finally turning their attention toward e-commerce. SAP a world leader will ride the wave. Price 32.00.

Best, Michael

Mark,

I would like to enter one stock now and mull over the second choice if that is acceptable.

MWY. Midway Games Inc. is an entertainment software company that provides products for both the coin-operated and home markets. It recently hit all time lows due to a product announcement slip. Financials are solid. No debt, P/E less than 10, price/sales=1, price/book = 2.25. Stock is also under significant accumulation by insiders.

I'm going with two biggies:

CPQ/Compaq Computer: Since the merger with Digital nothing much has
happened. But it's gotten it's inventory under control, is now
moving into direct selling a la Dell, and has Alta Vista, an
underutilized yet impressive search engine. I think this year will
be Compaq's.

SUNW:Sunmicrosystems: Been on a roll and should continue.
The JAVA maker is a "leading provider of high quality hardware, software and services for establishing enterprise-wide intranets and expanding the power of the Internet". It has more than $10 billion in annual revenues.

Ok.. Here's my second attempt:

1) Ciena: "Designs, manufactures and sells open architecture, dense wavelength division multiplexing systems for fiberoptic communications networks, including long-distance and local exchange carriers". Price/Book: 4.12, Trailing P/E: 38 and change (you did say
Book OR P/E, right?) No long term debt.

2) Avante! "Develops, markets and supports software products that assist design engineers in the automated design, layout, physical verification and analysis of advanced integrated circuits."
Trailing P/E: 19.4 Price/Book: 3.31. No long term debt.

I don't own either.. I own nothing with a P/E that low :(
