Good question...the smart ones will transpose their strategies and tactics to shorting downtrending stocks, but it will certainly take a mental shift before that happens globally on SI. Also, it will be slower on the uptake since many are managing IRAs and I don't think those accounts are marginable and are therefore not able to short in a down market.

Good question. My guess [given Dave's comment] is that SI would be very, very quiet. Most would probably be like the thread I seem to be the only one on, STM. Great company, hardly a cheapo, definitely a tech stock, but a European company so zip activity on the thread [unless I get inspired to make an occasional posting].
