<rolling eyes> someone at MarketWatch better get their head screwed on right...they're saying that the New York Times reported Disney HAD purchased a stake in GBFE - that sure wasn't *I* read:

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Golden Books Family Entertainment stock jumped 167 percent Thursday after the New York Times reported that Disney had purchased a stake in the children's publisher.

Golden Books spokeswoman Kathy Makrakis wasn't immediately available for comment.

Shares of the "penny stock" (GBFE) added 1 1/4 to 2.

Golden Books, which has seen its stock tumble from the 10-11 range in the past year, is streamlining itself to focus more intently on its core children's book business. The company also makes family entertainment products designed for other media.

Golden Books said last year that it retained Allen & Co. to help it explore "strategic alternatives" and is taking a number of cost-cutting measures.
