Regarding ASND and ATM - I'm not enough of an expert on the subject to really know one way or the other, but one engineer I know claims that ATM is not really as hot as some people think it is, something about the overhead "expense" of maintaining the ATM environment. Does anybody out there have any info on the subject? If not ATM, then is gigabit routing technology the alternative to ATM performance? Of course if CSCO decides the marketplace wants ATM them CSCO will make ATM products.

Regarding CSCO - just like MSFT, they never have the newest technology but when they move into a new technology they do it with solid products, sales, and support. And, just like MSFT, they have a way of taking over markets that they target.

Regarding LU eating ASND, I personally think the management style of LU will suck the life out of the people that have come over from ASND, I predict they will be bolting for the doors as soon as they can slip their golden handcuffs. Somehow the words "Lucent" and "Silicon Valley engineering culture" just don't seem to fit together very well.
