I'm up today !!! T.ATY reported monster earnings.

It opened up a dollar, but has fallen back with the market (still up 1/2 1t 19.10) I think it also trades on NASDAQ. A very good short-medium-long term play if anyone is interested.

I bet it closes above 19.25. Any takers?

January 14, 1999 07:30 AM PST

Advanced Micro Devices [NYSE:AMD] after the stock market close Wednesday said its fourth-quarter net income shot up to $22.3 million or $0.15 per share from $0.01 a share in the previous quarter. But even with the increase, the semiconductor developer did not beat the $0.18 per share First Call Inc.'s consensus of analysts' estimates had expected.

Revenues for the fourth quarter totaled $788.8 million, up 15 percent from the previous quarter.

AMD attributed all of its revenue growth to increased sales of AMD K6-2 processors with 3DNow technology.

For the fiscal year, AMD posted record revenues of $2.54 billion, on a net loss of $103.96 million or $0.72 per share. In 1997 AMD reported revenues of $2.35 billion on a net loss of $21.1 million or $0.15 per share. However, the firm notes its revenues grew by 8 percent in 1998, a year in which the semiconductor industry in general suffered double- digit revenue declines.

W.J. Sanders III, chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Growing customer acceptance of the AMD-K6-2 processor with 3DNow! technology enabled AMD to continue to gain share in the market for Microsoft Windows computing."

He added that unit shipments of AMD-K6 processors grew by 1.7 million, or 45 percent, to 5.5 million units from the immediate-prior quarter. AMD-K6 family processor revenues grew by more than $100 million over the immediate-prior quarter to $488 million.

"In 1998 AMD shipped more than 13.5 million AMD-K6 family processors, generating revenues in excess of $1.25 billion," Sanders added. "The majority of these units -- more than 8.5 million -- were AMD-K6-2 processors with 3DNow! technology."

AMD-K6 family processors were number one in the burgeoning segment for sub-$1,000 desktop PC systems, with 38 percent of the market in North America, AMD said, citing PC Data. Market share in the $1,000-to-$1,500 desktop segment was 37 percent and, in portable systems, AMD-K6 family processors captured 21 percent of the North American retail market.
