it was my understanding that EMC buys run of the mill drives, but puts a bunch of them together. So it doesnt matter if one goes down. EMC software does the fault-tolerance, not the drive. I also heard they ARE almost 100% in partnership with Seagate for the drives.
(but I heard that a long while ago)
