Walt,
Those test drives I reported were made on a test car.
As everyone else about to get their own Gen 2 EV1s with NiMH, I've been pacing back and forth waiting for delivery. Once again it has been pushed back. This time we are told it will be the middle of February.
It's strange but true that the NiMH experience has really dampened my former exuberance about the EV1 with Lead acid. I believe that with electrics the name of the game is range and I will bet that within three years you won't be able to buy an EV1 or any other production EV with lead acid batteries. Lead acids make the EV1 now seem like the dreaded word,"Toy". Personally I believe that NiMH will sweep the field for all advanced vehicles for a long time to come.

I know this will sound excessively optimistic but I believe that NiMH will obviate the old true and trusted Lead acids in all its functions including the lead acids in ICE vehicles, utility back ups, etc.

As to your question about cigarette lighters, I don't think you will see one in an EV1 this or any other year.
