Jim: <Jerry said 3DNOW! will distinguish the K6-2 from the Celeron>

Gary: <I doubt. That didn't help in Q498.>

Seriously. Jerry's statement that 3D-Now will distinguish K6-2 from Celeron is just more hype. AMD failed to market 3D-Now back in Q4 when it was forced to lower prices against the Celeron. And 3D-Now was supposed to be the big shining star in the 1998 Christmas buying season. Remember how all those games supporting 3D-Now was going to be released in time for Christmas, and how demand for these games were going to drive demand for the K6-2? Sure, unit sales were high (5.5 million), but AMD had to price the K6-2 well below the $100 ASP target to achieve it.

And now Jerry Sanders says, "Hey! K6-2 has 3D-Now! K6-2 has the 100 MHz bus! Celeron doesn't!" Nice try, Jerry. You should have said that back in Q4. Analysts aren't convinced, the public isn't buying (except at discounted prices), and investors are selling.

But hey, there's always the K6-3 and the K7, right?
