Platter,
Good article, thanks.

The decline in production is no where near the projected 15-25% decrease that had been threatened. I still wonder if their numbers are accurate.

The rigs looking for oil number is staggering in its implications.

Another subject, I like the fact that Saddam has threatened to up oil production, and that the US is willing to remove the quota as long as the money is used for food and medicine. OPEC has refused to take into account the return of Iraq production, apparently believing that if they ignore it, it will go away. Maybe this will force them to deal with it. It will be interesting because Saudi absorbed all of Iraq production, and won't give it back.

For anyone still following the Iran Afgan thing. The Iranian troops are still on the border. Apparently what they are doing is they holding forcing the Taliban to keep about 70000 troops there, allowing the Shites in Afganistan to strenghten themselves and even launch sporadic counter attacks. The situation is basically unchanged, and could still escalate at any time. It's still all tied in with Sunni vs Shite, Pakastan, Saddam, etc.

I'll close on a quote from last week's O&GJ, "The best cure for low oil prices, is low oil prices." I think we are beginning to see that at work.

Platter: Your last post says it all! Thanks. I just want to make one comment about the weather. I moved to Charleston from NJ because I couldn't take winter anymore. I wanted to move all the way to Florida, but Mrs. Bull would have none of it! She still wants her seasons, you know. I do, however, remember what they were like very well.

As I recall, with this much snow and ice, when a warming trend comes in, the higher temps allows the plows to get out and clear the roads. But the nights stay very cold and thermostats get cranked high. That is very good for gasoline demand for obvious reasons. Every one will use the daytime to go out and shop and catch up on all the stuff they didn't do for during the shut in. It is also good for nat gas because it keeps demand from dropping off too much. Later.
