Scumbria,

Fabs can run wafers thru in about 0.8 days per mask fix.

My guess is that they changed the speed path thru a routing change for the critical signal. As this is a 5LM process that translates to 10-11 mask layer being revised and rerun or about 10-12 days to run the fix.

Of course there is leadtime for packaging/testing the samples etc of a few days as well.

On the production side they can stage wafers up to the contact stage and keep the wafers running that way. That way they can still ship reasonable quantities of parts in Q1 99.

If this speed path does indeed cure the problem then we know they can produce the forecasted quantities.

Regards,

Kash
