Message 7285478 L M Ericsson gets the Americas Cup deals for 2000. By then cdmaOne should be up and running and maybe high data rate or cdma2000 or even WWeb in Auckland, running rings around Ericy. Tomorrow morning at 9 am Washington time I suppose, I've asked our Prime Minister Jenny Shipley, who will not wear a blue dress, to meet Bill Clinton to sort out this silly problem with Russia over launching Globalstar satellites. It is bad for all of us. The problem is alleged to be Russia helping Iran build nukes. Now why would Russia want to help Iran build nukes? It's a bit like the USA helping Cuba, Mexico or Nicaragua build nukes - more likely to come home to roost in Washington than arrive in downtown Moscow. Message 7293845 One could argue that if Iran has nukes, they might blow up Iraq and Saudi Arabia which would make Russian oil exports MUCH more valuable. Which wouldn't hurt the high cost North Sea and USA producers who are shutting down their stripper wells by the 1000s. Jenny will also try to get Charlene Barshefsky, Madeleine Albright and Bill Clinton to agree to a free trade arrangement. Unfortunately, the USA doesn't really seem interested in free trade if it means their sheep farmers can't compete with NZ. So there is a bit of hypocrisy going on - Americans whining about Japanese rice import restrictions while enacting their own import restrictions. Hopefully Jenny will get Bill to see reason. Meanwhile, it's about time Bernie Schwartz phoned the White House and told them to call off the dogs and let the Globalstar business get underway. He didn't pay all those donations to the Democrats to have them stuff things up. And Bill should phone the army and get them to round up the Senators who are breaching their oath of impartiality and all that stuff in this impeachment rot. Now Larry Flynt has retreated to hospital from where he'll unleash his next cruise attack. What fun! Meanwhile, Tero has terorized Motorola and their latest results. debry.com Motorola does seem in a shambles. Maybe Chris Reeder was right - they promise a lot then fail to deliver and hope to keep the business while they sort out the mess. Unfortunately, it seems to be going wrong since they had to pull out the Primeco cdmaOne equipment. It really does seem messy. Mquarkce PS: Drew, thanks for the recommendation, but I'd prefer that QUALCOMM money not be given to the CDG for junkets for antipodeans or anyone else. Leave it in the bottom line. They can read my rot here for free if they want to. I'm also just wondering how come the USA can't compete on lamb or Americas Cup. Maybe we should launch rockets too. Our pals in Niue or Rarotonga would be happy to help, giving a near equatorial launch site. No dog legs needed as it's all ocean!
