Cisco thinks Cable will prevail and is working with @Home on a 12-city shopping mall tour to educate consumers about cable modems.

This is from the latest issue of Fortune magazin, Feb 1, 1999, page 119.

"...Cisco announced a deal with AT&T and TCI, valued at slightly under $100 million. Cisco will provide the telco with equipment to route phone, Internet, and video traffic over its cable lines. AT&T's ads touting the service may speak of "Cisco-powered networks"....

Cisco is the dominant equipment maker of Internetworks. If Cisco thinks Cable is the future and is working with AT&T and ATHM to promote it, obviously there is something to it.

Please go and read the article for yourself.

"DSL is not a viable technology for the application RBOCs have in mind. You don't discover this until you try to scale."

Scale what? Number of users? In the DSL case, you put a larger switch in the CO. In the cable case, you may have to rewire the neighborhoods (again).
