ZP, I live in Portland OR.

There must be 50 retailers within 20 minutes drive of my house. Most are 2-3 person, independent outfits. Most of those are pretty good.

There is a free monthly computer newspaper here in which they all advertise, generally featuring long lists of computer parts including prices. Many of the local shops have websites with current pricelists.

There are special items that can't be gotten locally, such as PC Cooling fans and stuff, but most of the stuff mentioned on this thread is available.

I disagree. we don't have selection or prices that compete. If your trying to coordinate parts from multivendors arriving concurrrently your gonna lose. A little planning goes a long way. Ocassional disputes do arise but I always win. local retailers here are expensive, unknowledgeable, charge sales tax and restocking fees. Its a no brainer for me.
