I visited Peru fairly extensively 2 years ago and I can tell you that it is a fairly safe and equitable place to do business. the large problem that the country used to have was the rebel group The Shining Path. While I cannot say that I have visited the property of MCE I can tell you that the nearest town, Cusco, is the tourist center of Peru as it is the access town to the old Inca city Maachu Picchu(sp?).
I wouldn't worry about politics coming into play here.
