Needham & Co. upgrade?

Anyone catch this yesterday?

"Meanwhile, it looks like the AMD selling panic has ended, just as Needham & Company, a New York analyst, upgraded them from a Hold all the way to a Strong Buy, basically citing that AMD's quarterly report was in fact pretty darn good. Here are some snippets:
AMD appears to be entering a period of enhanced results
We now estimate that over the next five years, AMD can attain revenues of $7.5 billion and EPS of $4.50
We believe that the negative reaction to the 4Q98 results is unwarranted
Even with the lower figures (ASP), AMD's revenue growth exceeded Intel's on both an annual and sequential basis
Important Sharptooth and K-7 rollouts appear on track, setting the stage for substantial revenues and earnings growth over an extended period; we recently named the K-7 the most significant new semiconductor product of 1999
Would aggressively purchase AMD up to the mid-30s we feel comfortable projecting an improved ASP of $95 [for Q1'99]
Estimated [Q1] EPS is $0.22 "

Almost shocking to find an analyst out there not following the herd.

Gerard,

Your analysis is very rational. However, AMD is a very irrational company. Given with so many great opportunities, this company just cannot execute. PERIOD.

Gerard,

After seeing all the other chip stocks that got hammered yesterday I wonder if the cup is half empty or half full.

After listening to the CC yesterday, I came away with the impression that design and manufacturing at AMD was going extremely well. The big drop yesterday seemed due to either corruption or stupidity on the part of the analysts.
