Do I understand correctly that can now purchase a Clik drive from Iomega or for that matter, from Agfa that would be compatible with my Mac?

Angier,

A very interesting question. I'm assuming you have a USB port on your Mac, so this response is "geared" to that assumption.

When I get my Agfa ePhoto 1680 camera, I will send in a filled-in coupon (available at Agfa's site) with proof of the camera purchase (according to the site an original packing slip or copy of it will do) and Agfa will send me a free clik! drive bundle. Who knows how much Agfa pays Iomega (if anything) for it.

Since all versions of the current clik! drive are not USB clik! drives, I'm postiive the one I will receive from Agfa will not be a USB clik! drive.

However, I guess you know that NEC is going to start offering a USB clik! drive later this year, manufacturing them under license to Iomega. But, Agfa's current alliance is obviously with Iomega....not with NEC. What I'm saying is, even if NEC was selling their USB clik! drives right now, I'm guessing that Agfa would have to form a separate alliance with NEC in order to offer a free clik! drive with the purchase on an Agfa ePhoto 1680 camera. To take advantage of the offer currently on the table, one has to purchase the Agfa camera before Feb, 28, 1999 and has until March, 30 1999 (postmark date) to send in the coupon for the free clik! drive.

A rather long winded response to a simple question, no?

By the way, I have heard of USB to parallel port converter cards (or the other way around) that can be purchased at a very nominal price...$20?

Dave

You might check into whether you can plug the PCMCIA interface version of Clik! (the one with the card on the end of a cable - not the card reader) and readout the disk on a mating PCMCIA receptacle in a PowerBook or installed as an external peripheral on a desktop Mac.
