International Fibercom $6.33 IFCI, NASDAQ

The Internet is doubling every hundred days. If you want an Internet play that actually makes money, my favorite stock for 1999 is International FiberCom- they design and install all the extra capacity needed to allow this growth in the Internet to happen. Cable operators are expanding to allow two way communications to compete with the telecos, who are also expanding their Internet-clogged systems. These two industries are IFCI's biggest customers. Their rapidly expanding engineering group is likely to grow 50% or better next year. Their Fiber Optic Installation group did $30 million in '98, about double the year before, and is expected to double again this year to $60 million or more. Customers of these two groups include AT&T, TCI and Cox. IFCI's Systems Integration group is growing at about 40% annually. They design and install the interior wiring for LANS and WANS.

Customers include Nike, Intel and Catepillar. And IFCI's Secondary Equipment operations (reselling experienced and new telecom equipment) are tremendously profitable and throwing off lot's of cash to fuel growth. We should note there is currently some concern that recent acquisitions amongst IFCI's customers MAY have dampened equipment sales in the 4th quarter. World Access recently reported this as a factor in their EPS, but this only creates a temporary buying opportunity.  Earnings are still expected to have nearly tripled in ‘98 and well diversified IFCI still feels comfortable EPS will grow another 50% in ‘99 to $.65. On that basis this undiscovered gem sells at 10 times earnings.
