There's no volume behind any of the moves up, which makes me very suspicious that they mean anything... I agree. When we break out it will be an explosive move to the upside on big volume signaling the movement of big money into the stock. What will it take? earnings momentum. A strong buy from an analyst. An equity stake by a venture partner. A large multiyear contract. Any or all of these will occur this year. We have seen a lot of volume on the last 6 months, interesting to note that the accum/dist rates a B in IBD. Regarding the DOD announcement 2 points clarified. BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. (NASDAQNMS: SSPIF / TSE:SSY), the industry leader in high performance DSPsystems, today announced that the U.S. Department of Defense has chosen Spectrum to supply 'C6x-based DSP products and digital radio modules for several contracts under one significant, on-going program. Prior to being notified of its selection, Spectrum had already shipped US$ 2.6 million of product to its customer, announced as part of several smaller design-wins on August 31, 1998. At the end of December, Spectrum received a new order for US$1 million and shipped the majority of this order prior to year end with the balance to be shipped in the first quarter of 1999. Spectrum estimates the total revenue potential for this program over the next two years at US$8 million. The $8M is for new contracts and does not include the 2.6M or 1 M previously announced. This is an estimate and has the potential to become a larger order. "Our customer at the U.S. Department of Defense undertook a market survey and technical analysis of several companies to select a vendor and a standard 'C6x platform. We are very pleased that Spectrum's Monaco VME system solution, based on Texas Instruments'(NYSE: TXN) TMS320C62x chip, was chosen as the standard platform. We feel that our superior technology, commitment to quality and reliability as a supplier were major contributing factors to our customer's decision," said Brian Lowe, VP Sales, Spectrum Signal Processing. The DOD unlike some OEMs who may have relationships with dsp board companies is totally independent. They reviewed the creme de la creme of board vendors and opted for Spectrums platform { a Canadian Co.} based on reliability superior technology and quality. This is nice but with over 50 ins for last year most with fortune 1000 companies this is just the start. Once the investment public realizes what dsp's do and who are building the applications for the market the stampede will be heard in Burnaby. I know many of us myself included keep wondering when it will happen. If the company does what it has said it will do than we will all be rewarded for our patience. This stock IMO will be selling for several multiples of current price by the end of 99. The reason I invested in this company was because of superior technology a well layed out marketing plan for oem in defined vertical markets and a management team that can attract talent and customers like the names of customers we know and all those to be announced this year. I hear the list is growing very fast. Just sit back and wait and when the trading door gets crowded stand back and watch. With a float of 10M shares and most of that in strong hands it wont take much for the good ship Spectrum to gain altitude once the company gets one of the above mentioned "What will it take" Enough of my soapbox Enjoy the weekend and I hope you are here when the boards are flying here and at Spectrum. Regards Norden
