K: First I never took you for a Yank - an ex-convent school girl from a former British colony, but not a Yank. <ggg>

Second, I cannot watch sci-fi - I find real life in the present and the past much more interesting. Dr. Who never had a chance with me after one of my less brainy girl friends showed up in one of the episodes as a kind of Einsteinian Amazon from Jupiter. I was also "approached" by one of the Dr.Who's in a Wardour Street pub in Soho when I was a student. So, no, I don't really know what happened to them all.

"Dr in the House" originated from a movie "Dr at Sea" which starred a young Dirk Bogarde ("Death in Venice") He is now an aged novelist living not far from my place, a lonely figure carrying his shopping from Marks and Spencer. "Dr. at Sea" was the film in which Bridgitte Bardot was "discovered" by the english-speaking world. The TV series was current when I was at University. It was good fun, then. Most of the actors have disappeared.

I watched The Avengers only because we had so little to choose from in the 1960's and 1970's. I think we had two or three channels. Every show had 15-25 million viewers. I thought it was silly. Diana Rigg is considered a major actor in England. I believe she has been made a Dame (the female equivalent of a knighthood). She has had a number of hugh successes on the London live theatre (Eloise and Abelard, for example). She is still very active and looks very good for her age. Patrick McNee has become quite well-known in the US as a raconteur and has written an autobiography. He was raised by a Lesbian mother and her lover and talks about it a lot. He appears in cameo roles on variety shows and talk shows.

The British poke affectonate fun at the naivety of the Dr. Who and Avenger series. I think Dr. in the House would be considered politically incorrect like the Benny Hill shows.

I think they are making an Avenger film.

I don't know the other names you asked about.

Kenya:

You are probably thinking about Honor Blackman.

Cheers

(can't think of her name) who played Mrs. Peel.
Honor Blackman was the first one. That last one just had a show about the two female designers it was funny.

Brit TV nostalgia mode
I no you don't remember "Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men"

KenyaAA. OT*OT*OT Re: "thought you might give me an update on Diana Rigg." Victor is right. Diana Rigg IS a major stage actress in the UK and a dame. Last November she starred in two classic plays by Racine, the title role in Phedre and also in Britannicus. Both were recently exported from London to New York for a short run.

Before that she starred in Brecht's Mother Courage for the National Theatre and the title role in Medea in the West End.

She is indeed an outstanding actress.
