The Kentucky researchers were terribly naive. Any one who has experience in managing intellectual properties would know that the last thing you want to do is to disclose the material publicly before filing.

Public announcement prior to patent application usually dealt a death blow to any pending case because of the "prior art" resulting from public disclosure.
