cdg.org Perry, Thanks for the GSM IPR report which I found very interesting. Recommended reading! GSM sure is stinging the IP prices along. I'd thought 10% was a bargain for WWeb technology and that seems to be the case. Since QUALCOMM can offer a one stop shop for essential licences to use mobile patents, 10% is generous in the extreme. Maybe cdmaOne licensees have already got terms which mean such a price can't be charged for any upgrades to their existing licences. They have got a very good deal if that is the case. It seems that QUALCOMM could simply roll on ahead, ignore ITU and SETI, produce pdQ, HDR [high data rate], cdmaOne and cdma2000 [WWeb preferably - ditch the CDMA stuff which only us in-the-know geeks care about - apologies to the creators who have spent years developing it but Joe Public just wants functionality which they can hang a moniker on and preferable one which identifies its function]. QUALCOMM seems to have sufficient oomph on this one to be the standards body along with consultation within the CDMA Development Group. Mquarkce [I hope Moniker isn't just local NZ idiom - I'm not referring to anything prurient] Jon, on watching TV and work, people here don't seem to relate gazing at a computer monitor to work either. That does sound odd the name being laboriously brought up. That's how you create a buzz and story. Maybe some news creators are looking for something after Monica. A brewing battle on cellphones, with a small USA hero [Q!]versus the GSM behemoth, with governments, trade officials, Xena's pal Madeleine and Charlene, lobbying, Loral and illegal donations from Bernie Schwartz funded by Chinese nuke rocket launchers, the Web, telecommunications mega mergers, trade wars, Microsoft the evil monopolist [or heroic capitalist - can use both] and WirelessKnowledge, the Texan court battle, hagfish, brain cancer from microwaves, gasoline fires, Long Term Capital Management and the Globalstar connection, Brazil finances and auctions. There are quite a few angles. Money is there, power is there. A sex angle would be good. Somehow I can't imagine Irwin being cast as the central player there. Nor Andrew V. Okay, running out of ideas now....
