Last year was one of the worst on record for the hard disk drive storage sector - falling PC prices, Asian economic woes, and a shift from inductive to magnetoresistive technology made many players in this sector marginally profitable - if they were profitable at all. A number of industry studies indicate this could change in 1999 - PC sales are racing ahead of expectations, and new demand for hard disk storage devices could arise from sectors outside the PC market. Digital photography is expected to become very popular in the next year or so - in fact the number of digital cameras sold is expected to
at lease triple - and storing and editing these images requires a massive amount of data storage capacity.
