I'm not sure I totally agree. I look at MS Windows as a distribution channel for other MS products, a very large distribution channel. If the OS is split apart from other MS products, MSFT will loose its largest distribution channel, or at least would have to compete on a level playing ground with other products. I do agree if MSFT was split, that the different companies would most likely do well (some better than others), but unlike the AT&T split (where all the baby bells had local monopolies), it will be untrue for MSFT. The OS will remain a monopoly, and maybe the Office products, but MSFT's internet products are far from monopoly status.
