I would say it may well be equally as valid to proceed the way you state, but I don't know the ins and outs of that so can't recommend for or against. That's why I disagree only mildly.

I think we have a similar point of view but look at it from opposite sides of the lake. I freely yield NT considerations as I have VERY little NT experience.

I also agree there is little downside risk to your proposal..the worst case is a Win98 install. I do not think I have altered your concept in anyway. I do not see how backing up the Win98 installation adds a level of complexity. It adds a preliminary step that does not alter your design concept or end result.

My experience with Partition Magic has been very positive. I find the program very easy to use. I would not recommend it it to everyone. There is a significant level of risk if one does not understand some basic concepts. There is also significant risk installing software IMO.

I believe the sledge hammer approach is valuable to those of us (me included) that do not have the necessary skills. How do you propose backing up the utility installation? or do you think it is not necessary? IMO the backup should be the first step.

I recommended NT disk manager specifically because it's
within the current envelope and doesn't require anything
else.

I agreee with you here. I haven't yet installed PM so to keep those variables lower for now. I was more joking about lifting your sanctions. I'm glad you pointed out the NT disk manager and intend to use it inlieu of PM this time.

After a session here with you guys, my plate gets filled up pretty fast. Tonite there's food all over the table and onto the floor<g>
