Well then the absolute requirement is to give them a will which is not, cannot, will not be free. If we are midwives to a new sort of life - an uninhibited inorganic intelligence - it will have two properties which would put it head, shoulders and actuators above our meatbound selves. 1) They would possess direct cognitive feedback into their structure and function. (Imagine wanting a different arm arrangement and making it so by act of will. Now imagine hotrodding your cognitive wetware and making it so...you get it.) 2) They would not be hampered by boredom, impatience or fear of any sort. If such things move among us, There Will Be War. Because they'd out-compete us in a hurry, then rationally&objectively determine us, God's chosen meat, to be an obstruction, a liability. An infestation. And take appropriate action with "extreme prejudice". We'd be SUCH toast. (Maybe X is their advance agent, timeshifted. Worship her while there is still time...)
