Hey, go with the best, that's what I say!

Millberg Weiss, the leaders in the field of shareholder class action suits.

Although there are statistics indicating that they file more of these suits than any other law firm, I'd like to see a success/failure statistic of their cases that went to trial (not just settled for their nuisance value).

Lawsuits with co-ordinated national media exposure can be very effective tools for manipulating stock prices. This is the second such suit in 2 weeks. Wildly varying issues, so far the suits are only "reported", no actual court filing.

Think about how cost effective a spurious suit can be. For a couple of thousand bucks, nearly any of the legal whores out there will file any kind of suit you want. If the claims are outlandish enough, it will generally result in a number of reflex sells. This drop in price would be a tailor made opportunity for someone who was in a group of 6,000,000 or so short shares to cover at a much better price than might otherwise be available.

Given the information available on this and other threads, does anyone doubt that there are players of adequate size and exposure who would play these games?

I have been long this stock for more than two years. It seems clear to me that there is an organized effort by some very smart and dedicated people to bring this company down. I can't figure out why, though. And it's not just the shorts. There just isn't enough big money to be made by dropping the price of this company by a few bucks. It's not like ABT is astronomically overvalued. No, I feel there has to be another reason; maybe there is something personal going on between an unidentified person(s) and JT. Just my very humble opinion and a very uneducated guess.

Dear John: You're correct with the boilerplate legalese, but look carefully at the factual part of the ABTX press release, as compared to the seperate and independent article written by the Wall Street Journal article (October 27, 1998). The stock price was related to the terrible market for small caps, the short attack, and the ultimately "clean" SEC review (but during the review process, the shorts interpreted the situation in a terrible light). I don't have a link to that article, but do have an original article at my office. If I have time, I type the whole article this weekend and post it.
