Ron, there have been many people on this thread, myself included, who have spoken about stagflation rearing its ugly head in 1999.

My forecast for a surge in gold mining shares and the price of gold in 1999 is on track:

If your waiting for a major drop in the POG due to Central Bank Selling, then you are "Waiting For Godot". That is to say, you are in the Supreme Bearish Camp and will miss out on the Rally that has already begun in 99. Life and Investing is a War of conflicting viewpoints and attitudes that gets resolved in a manner that confounds most people. We are now in one of the most extreme periods of extreme pessimism in regard to the POG. YOU Are No Different Than All The Rest of the Nay Sayers, in spite of your eloquent words. The more Bearish analysis I read, the more Bullish I become. The time to be invested in Gold Mining Stocks is NOW! We have already bottomed out.

Ron,

<< And there is no inflation right now, but rather global deflation of prices and contraction of economic growth and pricing power. >>

Historically, gold has done well in periods of deflation as well.

Not only did I buy a newspaper today, I also got some o'those NY Peppermint Patties, a current issue of Antique Trader, a couple cans of powdered milk, 4# of lentils, a 16oz pkg of provolone, and a couple of "lady" items. Oh, and a loaf of french bread! And I had gold dust left over!

I have no problem with the flexibility/acceptability of gold. I'd suggest you learn to shop where I do.<grin>

I'll save the rest of the holes in your reply for another occasion.
Nice chatting w/you, Ron.
