On seeing the replay, the Southampton goal was not only not offside, but a great goal. The Liverpool win was not as impressive as the scoreline - Southampton were poor, poor goalkeeping. All the media glory went to United and to Chelsea. Liverpool moved up to 6th. They should move to 5th soon, but it will be harder replacing Arsenal or whoever will be in 4th place in a coupe of weeks (maybe Villa). Next week the big one. United are looking very strong, but Liverpool should acquit themselves well; they are on a roll. I think 3rd place this year is feasible, and with extraordinary luck even 2nd or 1st. But 4th would be the safer bet.
