It sounds as if he/she was merely buying to cover puts he'd previously sold. Selling puts is a bullish stance. Apparently he expected some sort of rise in the stock and sold to capture part of the premium. If he sold them when it was trading around the 5-6 area, then he averaged about $200 per contract when he covered. Nothing wrong with that! I just don't see where he'd find all those buyers!
