I shall continue to use this thread for Pet Peeves, though many of them aren't peeves to me, really, they're just very interesting.

I have a feeling the following hilarious abuse, which your cynic/pessimist example reminded me of, may have been discussed here already, possibly by me, even.

But maybe not: the use of 'ironical' as a synonym for 'coincidental,' as in,

"They arrived at the same time! How ironical!"

I've forgot whether single quotes are for word-words or concept-words, and in fact I've even forgotten if those are your categories! OH NO! And the worst of it is, I'm too lazy to look for it!

EDIT: I am going with this simpler rule of yours, which I found easily: To use a word, just use it. To mention it, enclose it in single quotes.
