<Woman never had any right under the constitution to keep her womb empty at all costs. It is against God and nature. The right to abortion is made up, it's not a right. The constitution has been made a lap dog.> Bob, I think natural law is probably preeminent in the realm of abortion. From the beginning of time, women have terminated pregnancies which they could not support. This happened for so many reasons it is hard to list them all, but to make a long story short, women usually resist bringing children into the world when they believe they will end up starving to death, or be born into situations of slavery or violence, or where the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest. These are not modern themes-the story is as old as mankind. I strongly believe women have animal instincts to abort pregnancies that will not result in a happy, healthy, viable child, and that these instincts come from the primitive brain. I think there is a survival of the fittest thing going on here. And before you go talking about murder, most women agonize over these decisions, and do not make them selfishly. Women in cultures which had no knowledge of abortion often abandoned newborn babies to die. This still happens more often than you might think! So you certainly could not say that abortion is against nature, if in nature it has always occurred. And in many religions which claim to worship God in some form, there are varying opinions about abortion. So you really couldn't say that it is consistently against God, either. It seems to me like men are deciding. There was an island, off Greece if I recall correctly, where there was a plant which was an effective abortificant. The demand for the plant was so great that it died out, I believe several thousand years ago. We know about it only from historical descriptions. Here is a web page called "the abortionist's garden". There is a little history wrapped up in the discussion of the various plants which I found interesting. You can see from this and from other historical discussions that abortion is an ancient concept.gothic.net
