Mine has little "mounds" for screwing in the brass posts, so I guess I could screw directly into the case instead of the brass posts.

Yes, I had little sheet steel 'mounds'. There were no brass pins. I mounted the mobo directly on the mounds.

I had to remove one to relocate it. NOT easy..I ended up breaking the 'mound'. There were spares in the case hardware kit..I assume for larger mobos so I replaced it.

You will destroy your MOBO if you do that. Generally you use urethane bushings. Cases like the Supermicro 750a come with special mounting feat for its case design.
