Brady, I think you may have misunderstood what I was asking. Let me clarify before I accept your answer, which agrees completely with my viewpoint. :) I was referring to barriers to market entry - that is, the ease with which somebody else could do something similar to what BFL is doing. Do you agree with me that there are minimal barriers to entry into the e-mall market? That just about anybody with some knowledge of HTML could set up the same thing, entering into a bunch of "open affiliate" agreements, and be in business overnight? (I think perhaps you thought I was talking about consumer "barriers"...)
